DALLISON, Ronald William

No.14579706, Private, Ronald William DALLISON
Aged 20

7th Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry
Killed in Action on Wednesday, 16th February 1944

Born in 1923 [Bury St.Edmunds Q4-1923 4A:1530], the son of William Ernest and May DALLISON (née FRENCH) of Mildenhall.

In the 1939 register at Kenilworth House, Kingsway, Mildenhall were his father William E [29-11-1894] a rating and valuation officer; his mother May [13-3-1894] and Kathleen ROBERTSON [10-5-1926] a scholar(evacuee?) later Mrs BRETT. There are 2 closed records

In the absence of documentation it is not certain Ronald was in North Africa (Enfidaville-Tunisia) with his battalion.
They were in the invasion at Salerno and then landed at Anzio where they relieved the Foresters on the 16th. CWGC have 28 killed on 16th and another 22 on the 17th.
After Ronald's death they then attacked on the 20th in an attempt to breakout and were virtually wiped out, only 80 men left out of 800 after about five days of bitter fighting .
